Tanglewood came about with the following anchors in 1973 Woolco, Leggett, and JCPenney. What was here was a Miller & Rhoads (which was bought out by the May Company) but the location here was closed prior to the buy out and the Valley View Mall location was converted to a Montgomery Ward as May Company originally did not want the Valley View nor River Ridge (Lynchburg) locations. There was never a Hecht’s here at this mall.
